Gene: [02^/CYP1ARA] aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase inducibility; bronchogenic cancer (liability?); [AHHR AHHI ]

COM

[1] The GDB:G00-118-984 and MIM:108330 describe this marker, under the name AHH, as aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHCH) regulator. However, according to generally accepted D.W.Nebert's nomenclature for the cytochrome P450 family (FAM:CYP/00.0), AHCH is identified as CYP1A - cytochrome P450, family I, type A (see GEM:15q2/CYP1A1; GEM:15q2/CYP1A2).
[2] On the opinion of D.Nebert (personal communication with V.McKusick, 1988; MIM:108330), the marker AHH, which was mapped (using the methods of somatic cell genetics) to Chr 2, must be excluded from the list of specified loci, for it is not a structural gene for either the enzyme AHCH (CYP1A) or its receptor. The gene in Chr 2 is supposed to regulate the activity of cytochroms P450-IA. Therefore, MIM:108340 describes the marker 'AHH inducibility' as a secondary one, and the HUGEN registered it as an independent locus, under the symbol CYP1ARA."

FAG

Over 25 loci belonging to the extensive superfamily of cytochromes P450 have been found in the human genome. The gene CYP1ARA was included into this group by presumption, on the basis of common functions. On other genes of CYP superfamily, see FAM:CYP/00.0."
